CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme for private companies

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a new, mandatory, carbon trading scheme administered by the Environment Agency. It aims to focus organisations on monitoring and reducing their energy consumption, and forms part of the UK government’s commitment to reach its 2020 and 2050 emissions targets.

From April 2010, your organisation will need to start monitoring and reducing its carbon emissions, but you need to take action now in order to ensure compliance, avoid fines and maximise the financial benefits.

How does the CRC scheme work?

Your organisation must participate in a yearly cycle of monitoring and reporting energy usage, and must purchase allowances based on your emissions.

Carbon Reduction Commitment yearly cycle

In practice, your organisation will need to measure its core energy consumption, that is:

  • electricity consumption (from the electricity grid)
  • gas consumption (delivered through gas pipes).

If other types of fuel account for more than 10% of your organisation’s total emissions, you will also need to report consumption, in the form of a Residual Emission Report.

How can we help you?

Your organisation may lack sufficient time or the specific skills needed to implement and manage the CRC project internally.

We can provide resources to help, either on an ad-hoc basis or by providing a complete CRC service to your organisation.

Over the last 25 years our specialised team has helped public and private organisations to successfully manage change and implement new processes. Our team also includes Carbon Trust Standard-certified engineers.

What we deliver

We have structured four deliverables to support UK organisations to be CRC compliant and optimise their league table ranking.

Carbon Reduction Commitment deliverables

You can use the set of four deliverables we have developed to:

  • calculate carbon emissions from core and residual consumption
  • prepare annual reports of core and residual consumption
  • track performance, using the energy and carbon emission dashboard
  • maintain a record keeping checklist
