Airtel sets sights on smart home space with internet of things

Rohan Dhamija, Head of Analysys Mason in India, comments on news that Bharti Airtel plans to enter the home automation / smart home segment with its Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-tomachine solutions in a move to expand its revenue base, allowing users to control elements such as lighting, heating, air conditioning, music and security systems through smartphones.

Nearly 90% of the Indian market is consists of apartment and developer projects, while the balance is consists of independent homes and villas.

Geographically, the market is still metros centric, with Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru accounting for 80-90% of the market, said Rohan Dhamija.
