ARM embraces Brit and Swedish upstarts in Softbank NB-IoT push

The Register speaks to Research Director Tom Rebbeck about ARM acquiring both Swedish firm Mistbase and British business NextG-Com.  The article suggests that ARM is now staking its flag firmly on the NB-IoT narrowband communications standard.

"It may signal a slightly new direction for ARM's approach to IoT.  It is an interesting deal as it moves ARM into radio technology, which they've not really done before - they have focused on the processors powering the radio but not the radio technology itself.  It is also not where they have a huge amount of expertise, which is how these acquisitions fit." explains Tom.

"I think it is the first IoT acquisition since Softbank bought ARM last year. I'm sure it won't be the last - I'd expect a number of similar bolt-on deals in the next year or two.  At the time of the ARM purchase, Masayoshi Son, chairman and chief executive of Softbank said, 'ARM is going to be everywhere in internet of things.'"
