Ofcom appoints Analysys Mason expert to Advisory Committee for Scotland

Analysys Mason Lead Consultant Franck Chevalier has been invited by Ofcom to join its Advisory Committee for Scotland.

The appointment will take take effect as at 1 January 2009, for a period of four years. 

Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services.

As set out in Section 21 of the Communications Act 2003, the Advisory Committee was established to provide advice to Ofcom (and other committees established by Ofcom) about the interests and opinions of people living in Scotland on all communications matters.

Chevalier has over ten years experience in the telecoms industry; in consulting, engineering and research. He has international experience of telecoms markets throughout the world.

Chevalier is a recognised opinion leader in the press and on the global event circuit. He is regularly invited to speak and present on a range of telecoms and ICT topics including next-generation access networks, backhaul and transmission networks.

Chevalier has a PhD in Optical Communication and is an IET Chartered Engineer. He is also a managing trustee of the charity ‘Supporting Education in Ghana’, which provides financial support to secondary school pupils.

Communications in Scotland is undergoing huge change with digital switchover having already begun in the Borders. Chevalier's  telecoms expertise will complement other members of the Advisory Committee, which will continue to provide Ofcom with advice on key issues for Scottish consumers and citizens
