Kunal Bajaj joined Analysys Mason following the acquisition of BDA Connect India, where he was Managing Director.
Kunal heads Analysys Mason's India operation from the New Delhi office.
Kunal started his career in New York with McKinsey & Company including assignments in New Delhi involving McKinsey's knowledge services. He then headed the technology division of a USD 60 million-revenue internet marketing company, also in New York, through its most rapid growth phase.
Kunal also worked as Consultant (Projects) for the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), where he had been leading TRAI's effort in identifying and addressing the unique challenges India faces in achieving wide-scale internet usage and broadband penetration through a competitive marketplace. He authored TRAI's recommendations in this space in the paper “Broadband India”, as well as leading and contributing to a number of related areas including Spectrum Policy, Unified Licensing, Rural Development, and Leased Line Tariffs.
Following TRAI, Kunal advised on projects in India for the World Bank, multi-national companies, venture organisations and start-up companies. Projects included consulting on spectrum management policy, rural telecom development, wireless broadband technologies and telecom infrastructure.
Kunal was also requested by the Department of Science and Technology to be part of a venture evaluation committee in the Technology Development Board, a venture investment body created to promote indigenous technology research and development.
Prior to joining Analysys Mason, Kunal was Managing Director at BDA Connect India, which he founded and built over three-and-a-half years to become a well-recognised strategy consulting company in the region. During his time at BDA, Kunal advised a variety of global organisations in the TMT and investment industries on their core India strategies, along with public sector institutions.
Kunal has three degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with Magna Cum Laude Honors, with a Bachelors in Computer Science Engineering, a Masters in Telecommunications and Networking, and Management & Finance Bachelors from the Wharton School.
Kunal currently holds the position of founding Co-Chair for the Mobile Marketing Association's (MMA) India Local Council, and was a Member of the Board of Directors of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) in 2007. He is regularly quoted by leading international publications and presents at conferences across South East Asia.
