Analysys Mason delivers solutions in spectrum policy, radio system modelling and interference analysis. Our impartial, expert and timely analysis helps regulators and operators make more effective strategic decisions regarding the technical capabilities and potential of new and emerging radio technologies or solutions:
- impartial: our advice is provided without bias, and is independent of internal organisational views or agendas that may surround a new technology or co-existence between different radio technologies
- expert: we aid operational staff in client organisations to keep up with the mass of new technologies, standards and regulatory information required for detailed and rigorous analysis of the technical merits of a new technology
- timely: we can provide rapid access to field trial results and use a range of modelling techniques to facilitate prompt evaluation of new technologies, co-existence requirements and protection of existing services to ensure organisations keep ahead of their competitors.
Increasing demand for radio spectrum brought about by an increasing range of emerging and new radio technologies or solutions means that regulators and operators are continually looking to make best use of available spectrum and improve the efficiency with which spectrum is allocated and used. The increasing range of radio technologies using different spectrum bands has resulted in an increasingly diverse and complex interference environment, which requires a range of modelling solutions.
We are able to offer rigorous and independent radio system and interference modelling, which is firmly rooted in commercial awareness. Different approaches to modelling system performance and co-existence are required depending on the objectives of the assignment. In delivering radio modelling and interference analysis we use:
- bespoke, proprietary and commercial radio-modelling tools, including MATLAB and ICS Telecom
- in-house commercial and scientific expertise
- internationally renowned academic experts.
The evolution of wireless technologies has progressed at a fast pace over the last two decades. All stakeholders including regulators, operators, system integrators and equipment manufacturers now face a major challenge to implement new and emerging technologies into the existing infrastructure, without any compromise on performance and without creating undue interference. Proponents of new technologies need to understand the spectrum requirements for that system and its co-existence with existing technologies. In future, spectrum sharing may become increasingly common, which requires understanding of the feasibility of different sharing scenarios to meet agreed protection levels.
3G-LTE, 4G-WiMax, ultra wideband and mobile TV technologies have the potential to compete with or complement existing technologies, resulting in a disruption of mobile operators’ revenue streams, which in turn affects their business strategy.
At Analysys Mason we focus on developing three key areas:
- research: a complete understanding of the technical, academic, regulatory and commercial issues surrounding the technologies and the propagation environment
- analysis: the development of leading-edge radio system modelling techniques, determining the effects of the propagation environment and other spectrum users upon the efficiency of a given radio system and analysis of the impact of interference and means of interference mitigation
- publications: the publication and presentation at national and international fora, regulatory and standards agencies, interest groups and stakeholders, of influential white papers, reports and presentations.
