The mobile applications ecosystem in developed markets relies on 3G and cannot be transplanted to emerging markets with any hope of mass-market success. Network operators in emerging markets should explore a range of solutions for subscribers who do not have a smartphone or access to 3G.
David Martin (Analysys Mason Associate) is an experienced freelance researcher, telecoms analyst and writer.
