Iqbal is an accomplished public policy adviser to senior government officials and regulators on telecoms and media sector issues. Iqbal has advised the First Minister of Scotland and the Mayor of London on telecoms-related issues and has worked with international, national and local governments and regulators on data centre and cloud strategies, national broadband plans, commercial PPP and SPV structures, and broadband investment strategies.
Iqbal is a regular keynote speaker at high-profile industry conferences in Europe and Africa on digital inclusion and on national broadband issues. He recently presented the findings of a discussion paper written for the ITU on strategies to attract investment in broadband networks. The ITU refers to Iqbal as an expert.
Iqbal is also a respected and well-networked industry adviser. Iqbal sits on the Greater London Authority's Connectivity Advisory Group. He is an Independent Director of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust and a Fellow of the RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce). Until recently Iqbal was a Board Member of ScotlandIS (an independent trade organisation for the digital technologies industry). Iqbal holds a B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Strathclyde (UK).
