The connected car market is the single biggest IoT opportunity for telecoms operators. Vodafone took analysts to meet a selection of its automotive clients to learn about the current state of their connected car and motorbike projects. (For commercial reasons, the companies that we met asked not to be named.)

There is no common view of how to use connectivity in vehicles; each company is at a relatively early stage of experimenting with different ways to take advantage of connectivity, and no standard model has emerged. For Vodafone, this makes its early-stage involvement possibly even more valuable; it is participating in a range of projects, some of which will probably to help to develop a standard approach.
