Most forecasts of consumer telecoms and media consumption are unconstrained. Our forecast of service usage is limited by the amount of time that a typical European or North American consumer can be expected to spend on each service in an average day, based on primary research. As the number and combinations of services, devices and connectivity methods multiply, it becomes increasingly important to understand what users will be doing and, crucially, what this means for providers of these services.
This Report provides:
- forecasts of the average number of minutes spent by a user per day on different types of:
- activity (watching TV, listening to audio, playing games, browsing, reading, messaging and voice calls)
- device (mobile handset, tablet PC, PC, TV, console and radio)
- connectivity (cellular, wireline, broadcast, locally stored and physical media).
- combinations of the forecasts of consumption by activity, device and network (for example, the number of minutes spent watching video on a TV set delivered via a broadcast network from 2011 to 2016)
- for three distinct user profiles, forecasts of:
- minutes by activity, device and connectivity type
- the value of this usage by activity, device and connectivity type.
- recommendations for operators on how to respond to changes in the consumption of:
- content, such as TV content
- telecoms services, such as voice and messaging.
