"Cloud-based networks and operations will be essential for realising communications service providers' (CSPs') transformation goals."

Reuirements for a cloud network platform report

This white paper outlines the key drivers and requirements for building cloud-based packet, optical and fixed access (IP, MPLS, optical, microwave and fibre access) networks for communications service providers (CSPs).

The report provides a definition of the cloud-based networks and operations based on Analysys Mason’s digital network and operations platform (DNOP) vision, discusses the main challenges surrounding these networks and operations, and recommends a migration path for CSPs that can minimise the complexity and risks of software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualisation (NFV)-driven transformations.

The report also analyses the potential benefits of adopting a platform-based approach to implementing wide-area network (WAN) SDN automation and identifies the desired characteristics and functionalities of an ideal multilayer SDN platfor, as well as how it fits into the wider DNOP framework, as illustrated below.
