Mobile network operators (MNOs) have been progressively bringing their high-speed packet access (HSPA) services to market. HSPA builds on the already established circuit-switched data capability of 3G networks and takes speeds into and beyond the megabit level. Modest tariffs for HSPA services mean that mobile data is now affordable for consumers who want it. This paper discusses the threat that HSPA and equivalent services pose to fixed-line operators.
