How to make broadband work in Africa: why submarine cables aren't enough

Africa has benefited in recent years from increasing international connectivity following the launch of the SEACOM, EASSy, TEAMS and WACS submarine cables. With the ACE and LION-2 cables scheduled for launch next year, many believe broadband is now poised to take off in Africa. However, what is not always discussed is that international connectivity is only one part of the puzzle. National backbones, and metro and access networks, will also need to be addressed if the goal of affordable, ubiquitous broadband services is to be reached.

In this Analysys Mason webinar, Roz Roseboro and Robert Schumann examine the trends and challenges in each of the four domains involved in the delivery of broadband services.

During the webinar, our experts address these key questions:

  • how much does each domain impact the cost of broadband service delivery?
  • what is the ideal state of each domain?
  • what should policy makers and regulators do to promote and support competitive broadband markets?
  • which countries offer the most attractive investment climate for broadband services?
