Overview of a desk research project

Analysys Mason enabled the client to prioritise its international lobbying to maximise its effectiveness

Business Challenge

Our client, an international equipment vendor, was seeking to stimulate the deployment and take-up of VoIP equipment sales through target lobbying of regulators in specific countries.

Analysys Mason was asked to research the status of VoIP regulation in 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Approach

  • Performed desk research and interviews, bringing in third-party experts and making use of our analyst team’s multilingual abilities.
  • Created a data collection template to enable rapid identification and use of relevant information.
  • Examined the approaches of regulatory bodies to the classification of VoIP, and current VoIP regulation.
  • Analysed key issues that are concerns for regulators, and other issues impacting on VoIP services.
  • Identified those service providers that were active in lobbying on VoIP issues.

Benefits and results

  • The output of this project – a detailed spreadsheet containing source data and our evaluation of it, and a Word report. summarising our recommendations – provided the client with our assessment of likely developments in VoIP regulation.
  • The client was able to use our work to prioritise where, and with whom, it should focus its regulatory lobbying efforts.
