Quantitative surveys

Overview of a quantitative survey project

Analysys Mason assessed the enterprise requirements of high-speed Internet services for a regional development agency

Business Challenge

  • Our client – a UK regional development agency – required market research into the high-speed Internet requirements of businesses located in part of the region, in order to inform a potential infrastructure-based intervention.
  • Analysys Mason was commissioned to assess the level of demand and the benefits to local businesses of the proposed intervention.

Approach

  • Designed the research programme and managed a programme of short telephone interviews with 250 businesses in the region.
  • Undertook 30 face-to-face interviews with key businesses from the region’s commercial and industrial parks.
  • Identified and analysed: current penetration of broadband and other high-speed connection, suppliers, spending issues, and the relative importance to businesses of communications (compared with other important business issue.
  • Quantified the productivity benefits and revenue gains that would result from investment in new regional infrastructure.
  • Identified areas with the highest demand density and greatest propensity for business investment.
