"Telefónica’s FUSION project is a textbook example of how to build a cost-efficient, agile transport network to cater for the traffic volumes and features that are expected from 5G."
Telefónica needed to rationalise both the architecture of its IP and optical networks and the many interfaces involved in its management so that it could grow network capacity without increasing cost. It is taking a step-by-step approach towards implementing a disaggregated, white-box-based and SDN-controlled network of the future to support 5G.
This case study provides:
- an introduction to Telefónica's FUSION all-IP transport network transformation
- business challenges and key drivers of the project
- an overview of the deployment and benefits of FUSION
- the business benefits that Telefónica has achieved to date.
