MEF’s annual event, held most recently in Los Angeles in November 2019 (MEF19), provides an overview of the status of the carrier-grade SD-WAN market.1 MEF2 is involved in many initiatives to define, certify and automate operations for carrier-grade SD-WAN and unleash vendor and service provider revenue opportunities. The complexity of these initiatives, however, will require years to navigate. This comment analyses the present state of the market for SD-WAN that is offered to enterprises by service providers (typically as a managed service) and its outlook based on the demonstrations, discussions and declarations at MEF19, along with Analysys Mason’s recent SD-WAN research.
