"Operators should think big in terms of edge computing and start aligning themselves with large industry standards-making organisations such as the Industrial Internet Consortium."
Edge computing is set to be a hot topic in 2019, as confirmed by the large number of edge-related announcements that have been made in the lead up to Mobile World Congress 2019. Organisations that are bidding for the support of the edge developer and user communities are stepping up their efforts to own the reference architecture, blueprints and APIs that will underpin interoperable edge computing platforms everywhere. Operators will provide a subset of edge locations, so they will need to join forces with broader industry organisations to address the issues of interoperability across an end-to-end edge ecosystem.
