Only a few telecoms operators are active in the communications platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) market despite its potential for revenue growth and despite the risks that OTT CPaaS providers pose in disintermediating operators from the supply of voice and messaging services to business customers. Operators should consider developing comms APIs or a CPaaS proposition to upsell business-to-consumer (B2C) cloud communications services to business customers.
This report provides:
- recommendations for those operators that plan to increase their presence in the CPaaS market and/or in the cloud-based real-time communications (RTC) space
- an overview of the monetisation opportunities available to operators in the CPaaS value chain
- an assessment of the role that third-party players' API platforms can play in operators’ open APIs and developer portals (the example of KPN's API Store is highlighted in the report)
- an overview of OTT CPaaS resellers' and providers' own-branded CPaaS solutions.
