"Nokia’s retreat from the private networks space reflects the market’s slow progress, but competitors could take advantage."

Nokia announced a major restructuring during its Capital Markets day in November 2025. The plans include moving Nokia’s Enterprise Campus Edge (ECE) division, which accounts for most of its private networks activity, into a ‘portfolio business’ segment along with other units that Nokia does not deem to be part of its long-term strategy. Further reports have confirmed that Nokia will look to sell the ECE division, probably in 2026.

The private networks market may suffer in the short term by losing one of its biggest proponents. However, Nokia’s withdrawal will create opportunities for other players. Whoever acquires the ECE division will have a strong base to build on and some of Nokia’s competitors could strengthen their own position in Nokia’s absence.
