Ericsson announced its planned USD1.1 billion purchase of Cradlepoint, a cellular router vendor, in September 2020; this will be its largest acquisition in over a decade. Ericsson is buying Cradlepoint to help increase enterprise adoption of 5G, and it is expecting that Cradlepoint’s existing business will continue to expand. The deal should also provide indirect benefits for Ericsson (in its IoT unit, for example), and will offer future options in areas such as private networks.
