Multi-cloud networking software will gradually become an integrated constituent of broader, unified platforms
Multi-cloud networking (MCN) software platforms offer capabilities for orchestrating and managing intra-cloud, inter-cloud and app-to-app networking. However, as the MCN software market segment matures, there is an emerging need for these solutions to move their focus beyond pure overlay networking. We first highlighted this in our article Multi-cloud networking software should become an ACSON platform, similar to how SD-WAN became SASE. The call for such a change is timely as the MCN software market appears to have lost some of its initial momentum. This is underscored by Prosimo, which was one of the main players pioneering this market, being hastily acquired by Palo Alto Networks in early 2025 amid bankruptcy concerns.
