Sylva Developer Day and KubeCon 2025: operators’ interest in the Sylva project is growing
Analysys Mason attended both the Sylva Developer Day and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s (CNCF’s) KubeCon Europe in April 2025. These events highlighted a clear shift in telecoms operators’ attitudes towards open-source technologies: operators are now treating these technologies as a core pillar of their network infrastructure strategies, rather than an experiment. Operators’ interest and participation in these events was higher than in previous years, signalling growing commitment to cloud-native technologies.
KubeCon’s Cloud Native Telco Day offered a broad view of operators’ progress on their cloud-native journeys. In contrast, the Sylva Developer Day acted as a more targeted, hands-on forum focused specifically on the telco cloud. Operators and vendors came together at the latter event to tackle the challenges of building a scalable, cross-domain telco cloud, from lifecycle management and GitOps adoption to modular infrastructure and AI readiness.
This article explores the drivers behind the Sylva project’s growing momentum, as well as its long-term ambitions, key achievements to date and increasing relevance beyond the telecoms domain.
