Telecoms operators and vendors have been struggling to contain the costs of operational software development, as well as to address the risks and lengthy timescales associated with its secure delivery. However, new programming tools such as generative AI (GenAI), agentic AI and low-code/no-code (LCNC) solutions have the potential to transform all software development work. It is therefore critical that operators and vendors embrace these tools.

This report provides:

  • a high-level analysis of the impact of new AI programming tools for software applications
  • recommendations for operators and software vendors that can help them to make further advances with their software development strategies.
