The problem

A leading telecoms operator was looking to expand into the data-centre and anything-as-a-service (XaaS) space through a dual organic/inorganic growth strategy. Analysys Mason was commissioned to develop the growth strategy in collaboration with the client team; this task was followed by an assessment of the attractiveness of a set of markets and scouting for potential targets that could extend our client's capabilities and service portfolio

The solution

We developed a growth strategy slide deck, which included a framework to identify the most promising markets and the ideal characteristics of the target(s).

The readiness of 15 markets was analysed by looking at both demand and supply environments. The current situation and future dynamics of each market were assessed and compared with each other, leveraging Analysys Mason's industry knowledge and extensive data analysis.

Desk research aimed at identifying the players (local or international) operating in the markets deemed most attractive was carried out. Each company was reviewed from different angles: set of capabilities, breadth of service offering, customer portfolio, financials, cultural fit with the client, ownership structure, synergy potential, geographical footprint.

We then produced detailed case studies on the most interesting targets for further valuation and first contacts.

The project work involved a high degree of interaction between the Analysys Mason team and the client team to enable a continuous flow of information that benefited both parties.

The result

A short list of potential data centre and XaaS targets was identified and taken to the Board for approval.

Analysys Mason produced a report to present the investment opportunity to the Board.

The project work involved a high degree of interaction between the Analysys Mason team and the client team to enable a continuous flow of information that benefited both parties.
