Large operators should not be complacent about Digi's entry into the UK market

Digi bought a 51% stake in Whyfibre, a UK fibre company, on 19 March 2026. The deal is relatively modest: Whyfibre does not even have a functioning website yet, and Digi is only planning pilots initially. 

The deal could, however, turn out to be significant, even if the immediate competitive threat is limited. Digi has successfully disrupted other European markets, most notably Spain. Some of the characteristics of the UK market may also make it open to disruption.
