The trends in the application-to-person (A2P) market indicate that while SMS will remain dominant until 2027, it is losing market share to third-party messaging apps (for example, WhatsApp). Operators cannot rely on rich communication services (RCS) to regain B2C messaging market share, and instead should be looking at APIs to increase their revenue.

Information included in this report:

  • An analysis of the opportunities telecoms operators have for increasing their business messaging revenue
  • A perspective that telecoms operators can take inspiration from when generating their business messaging, wholesale and API strategies
  • Suggestions for network-as-a-service (NaaS) APIs which could be developed and sold to messaging aggregators

Operators mentioned in this report

  • BICS
  • BT
  • Deutsche Telekom
  • Fastweb
  • KPN
  • MTN
  • Orange
