IP network disaggregation: accelerating operator adoption

IP network disaggregation is becoming increasingly viable for operators, but many of the Tier-1 operators that have adopted disaggregation have only done so at small scale and for a single domain. Operators need to understand the benefits and implications of disaggregation and should aim to accelerate their adoption of disaggregated networking technologies.

This report provides:

• a discussion of operators' current adoption of IP network disaggregation
• an analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of IP network disaggregation, as well as of the hurdles that are slowing adoption rates
• recommendations for operators on how they can accelerate their implementation of disaggregated networking solutions.
