The Quality On Demand (QoD) network API is a promising way for communications service providers (CSPs) to monetise their cloud-native networks. It enables developers to request specific network performance parameters (latency, bandwidth and jitter) in an easy-to-use way, and integrate the functionality into their enterprise or consumer applications.
The use of the QoD network API has been increasing since the end of 2024. Indeed, 18 CSPs worldwide have now launched, or are actively trialling, the QoD API, and some are even starting to make money from it. Most, however, remain in the exploration phase.
In this article, we discuss some of the early traction for the QoD API, some of the roadblocks and what CSPs can do to maximise its potential.
