"It is important that stakeholders look for potential use cases for converged 5G core deployments; propositions targeted at home workers are worth exploring."

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a surge of home working and there is now evidence that this will persist, even as social distancing measures are gradually removed. For example, the BBC’s research shows that most of the 50 largest firms in the UK intend to promote a mix of office and home working in the future.1 In this article, we assess how home broadband operators can benefit from this permanent increase in home working. We consider the role that the converged 5G core (and 5G residential gateways that can connect to such core networks) could play in enabling propositions aimed at home workers, as well as the challenges of such an approach.
