Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been the most prominent unified communications and collaboration tools of 2020. However, RingCentral has also made a series of significant moves to position itself as a major contender in this space, including launching new products and go-to-market partnerships.1 Its latest initiative is the launch of Glip, a freemium video and messaging service, which RingCentral is positioning as a direct competitor to Zoom’s paid-for video meetings service.
RingCentral is unlikely to be able to displace Zoom from its position as the market leader for video meetings, but this move has the potential to dent Zoom’s ambitions in the voice calling market, while advancing RingCentral’s own market share.
