BSG report calls for better planning regulation

Telecom Paper reports on the publication by UK's Broadband Stakeholder Group of a report which highlights a number of recommendations on how to lower the cost and speed up the deployment of fibre networks.

Conducted by Analysys Mason, the study looks at how different interpretations of planning regulations by local authorities as well as operator practices can hinder the construction of broadband infrastructure.

The study entitled Lowering barriers to telecoms Infrastructure deployment focuses on four key areas affecting planning processes: noticing and permit schemes, Section 58 notices, road traffic management and planning permissions.

It makes a series of recommendations to central and local government, as well as to operators, on how to lower the burden on telecoms operators by creating consistency in the interpretation of legislation and improving the level of interaction between all parties.
