"Telenor demonstrates the benefits of applying a cross-opco approach to developing and deploying NFV using open-source technologies."

Telenor has eight opcos in fiercely competitive country markets, with a broad span of ARPU levels and rates of traffic growth. Its cost reduction targets and future ability to innovate will come from having a common NFVI architecture across opcos, and it is on target to run 90% of its network functions on its virtualised platform by 2020.

This case study provides:

  • an overview of Telenor’s NFV strategy and the principles behind its multi-vendor NFV infrastructure approach
  • the key success factors in developing and deploying common platforms to eight opcos
  • an analysis of the business benefits achieved
  • Telenor’s roadmap for NFV automation.
