The New Delhi office

BDA Connect India was founded in 2006 as a TMT consulting specialist and became a well-recognised brand in South Asia within a couple of years. It was then acquired by Analysys Mason in April 2010. The team grew significantly after the acquisition and established a deep relationship with mobile operators, the investor community and other TMT value chain participants. Most of our engagements were with clients in South Asia until 2017.

The India office became a part of the integrated South Asia and Middle East and North Africa (SAMENA) practice in 2018, and now serves clients throughout SAMENA. The integration has enabled consultants to get a wider range of experience and exposure in terms of geography as well as the nature of projects.

Location

The office is located in the central business area of Gurugram (Cybercity), which means that we are close to some of our mobile operator and towerco clients. The office is surrounded by a multitude of restaurants and eateries, and is just 20–30 minutes from the airport by car.

Our team works with a wide range of clients across geographies, and we have been involved with numerous interesting projects, some of which are outlined below.

We provided transaction support to TPG Capital regarding its investment in Jio Platforms. This was a very exciting assignment! It was a ground-breaking transaction, given the unique market conditions in India. After disrupting the telecoms industry, Jio was looking to disrupt the digital market (including OTT, e-commerce and fintech) and fixed broadband space as well. We conducted a full commercial due diligence on the asset, and the project involved a large team, excellent collaboration between offices, lots of intriguing discussions and a high-quality output.

We had an interesting engagement with stc related to the carve-out of it tower assets to set-up the first independent towerco in the Middle East. We were very actively involved and helped the client with a wide range of topics including developing a market entry strategy, considering potential acquisitions, outlining a commercial strategy, forming plans for recruitment and drafting a business plan. All of this culminated in the creation of a new entity, ‘Tawal’, and working in its first office felt like completing a successful journey.

Meet the office head

I lead Analysys Mason’s offices in New Delhi and Dubai. I have over 18 years of experience in advising telecoms operators, investors and policy makers on board-level strategy matters. Prior to working at Analysys Mason, I was a senior member of Monitor-Deloitte’s New York-based TMD strategy practice. I graduated with an MBA as a Dean’s Merit scholar from Carnegie Mellon University USA, and prior to that I was an honours graduate in telecommunication engineering. I am an avid dog lover and cricket fan, and I am a former national champion in Taekwondo.

Having previously worked with a number of management consulting firms around the world, I cannot think of a better place to spend the rest of my career than Analysys Mason. The level of intellect and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the strong bonds between colleagues, give me unmatched pride and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Delhi and Dubai offices.

Meet our people

Before joining the firm in 2021, I completed my post-graduation studies from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and my undergraduate studies from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. One aspect about working at Analysys Mason which I like the most is the collaborative environment. Everyone in the firm is quite helpful and understanding, and are always willing to hear out your ideas, which makes for a great working experience.

Culture and benefits

Culture

The Delhi team continues to expand, but the underlying office culture remains the same. The office culture is based on the principles of mutual respect, personal accountability and collaboration, and these are some of the primary reasons for the continued success of the team. We dress in formal business wear for on-site work, but tend to follow a business casual dress code in the office on Fridays. The office culture and physical layout is very open and we strongly encourage staff to approach their peers for solutions, irrespective of their seniority. The Delhi team strongly believes in a healthy work/life balance and we try to fit in frequent social events around our busy work schedules. We also sit together for lunch, either in the office or at one of the surrounding restaurants. This tends to spark super interesting and informative discussions that extend beyond the realm of work and telecoms.

It is always great to be part of office parties as that provides a chance to get to know everyone in an informal context.
