The Paris office

Our work

Typical projects

We specialise in one of Analysys Mason’s five practices: transaction support. This accounts for approximately 50% of our engagements; strategy and regulation and policy each account for a further 25%.

We have previously worked for regulators and government entities in France and French-speaking countries in Europe (France, Belgium and Luxembourg) and Africa (including Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia) on regulatory and market liberalisation issues. We have also helped operators with a range of strategic issues (such as business plans, transformations and licence acquisition) and have branched out into transaction support and M&A. As such, we are experts in all of these areas and markets.

Meet the office head

Stéphane Piot

Welcome to the Paris office! I hold an engineering degree from École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne (France), a Master’s in telecommunications from University College, London (UK) and a French Mastère Degree in the management of new technologies from the Economic and Business School, HEC (France).

I joined the office straight after graduating in 1999 and was quickly promoted to become one of the youngest Partners in the firm. This, for me, was a real illustration of the company’s core culture: merit-based promotion, irrespective of your age/gender and background.

I am particularly proud of the team spirit in the Paris office. We are all very different (many different nationalities, a range of backgrounds and different cultures and hobbies), but we are all united and support each other.

After graduating from École Polytechnique and Télécom Paris, I joined Orange (the French incumbent operator) as a Project Manager and then as a Major Account Manager. I moved to the TMT team of a generalist consultancy firm in 2000, where I helped many French operators with new product development, process optimisation and regulation. I had had some involvement with Analysys Mason on several projects throughout my early career and joined the company in 2007. Since then, I have worked in more than 40 countries and territories across the 5 continents on a wide variety of projects covering due diligence, strategy and regulation. What still strikes me in this company is the depth of our expertise in a wide range of subjects and how people are always ready to collaborate to deliver thought leadership to our clients.

Omar Bouhali Partner

After graduating from École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay and receiving a physics PhD from Université Paris-Sud, I started my career as an architect at the French Ministry of Defense. I then spent several years at the ARCEP, the French regulator, where I defined spectrum auctions and led the team in charge of technology policy. I joined Analysys Mason as an experienced hire, and although the transition to strategy consulting proved challenging at first, I now feel that my regulatory and technical background is an asset to the Paris team! I enjoy being able to regularly interact with key stakeholders and work with a variety of TMT companies around the world.

Sylvain Loizeau Manager

I joined the Paris office as an Intern Associate Consultant in June 2019 after graduating from UCL with a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering and from HEC Paris with a Master’s degree in strategic marketing. I have participated in several major due diligence projects for fibre-optic networks in France, Switzerland and Germany in the context of M&A and refinancing. The multi-disciplinary nature of the projects that I work on and the multi-cultural work environment are two of Analysys Mason’s strongest points. The attention to detail and rigour involved in creating the deliverables is both challenging and rewarding.

Max Perkins Consultant

I joined Analysys Mason in September 2020 after finishing my studies in general engineering at École Polytechnique and Imperial College. The idea of working on a wide variety of projects in the rapidly evolving TMT sector is what drew me to Analysys Mason, and I have already been involved in projects for very different types of clients. My university studies were not directly related to telecoms, but I feel that the numerical and analytical skills that I developed have been useful.

Culture and benefits

Culture - Paris

Working in the Paris office

In our office, we champion intellectual curiosity, honesty, rigour and constructive behaviour. You will not be blamed for making mistakes, but you should be able to recognise them.

We offer our team the flexibility and autonomy to grow their own areas of expertise and to develop new content and ideas in a friendly (though demanding) environment.

We typically spend most of our time working in the office in Paris (or from home during the pandemic). However, some clients request more collaboration than others, and at least part of the project team may have to travel to a client’s premises for a few days for meetings, workshops or technical site visits. Nevertheless, the Paris team’s core focus is more on strategy than implementation, and long-term assignments requiring our continuous presence at a client’s premises are very rare.
