“AI is changing where networks and data centres get built, and who ends up capturing the value. No one delivers the whole route alone any more, so the operators and investors who do well will invest selectively and partner widely.”
Ryan is a Partner who advises boards and executive teams at telecoms operators, digital infrastructure businesses, and IT services and technology companies on growth strategy, capital allocation, and operational and organisational transformation. He also supports infrastructure funds and private equity investors across the deal lifecycle, from investment thesis and commercial due diligence to value creation.
His work spans data centres, fibre networks and towers, as well as the IT services, cloud and software businesses that increasingly run on top of them. He is particularly interested in how AI demand is reshaping where capacity is built, which players capture the margin, and what that means for the operators and investors backing them. He has advised several of Australia’s largest network operators on their investment decisions, and led operational and organisational transformation programmes, from cost and operating model resets to organisation design and B2B go-to-market.
Before joining Analysys Mason, Ryan was at Oliver Wyman, where he was part of the leadership team that built its communications, media and technology practice in Australia. Before that he was at Strategy&, where he advised telecoms, media, technology and services businesses on strategy and transformation. He has worked across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, the UK and the USA, including with Facebook’s EMEA strategy team in London. Ryan holds an MBA from London Business School and a first-class degree in Software Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney.
Outside work, Ryan spends as much time as he can with his young family, and is always on the lookout for the right coffee, whether made at home or found at a good local café. He is also a keen runner.
