Technology and telecoms companies are only just starting on their journeys to reduce their environmental impact; but they need to ensure they look externally as well as internally, so they do not miss opportunities to leverage their improved sustainability.
Simon is a Research Director and leads our programmes on Fibre Infrastructure and Sustainable Networks. With 30 years’ experience in the telecoms industry, Simon’s expertise ranges across fixed and mobile devices and networks, operator strategies and infrastructure evolution. He has overseen projects encompassing retail and wholesale, and business and consumer services. He is now applying his insights to help clients understand the evolution of broadband infrastructure and fibre investment trends, guiding the technology industry’s path to a low-carbon, less resource-intensive future, as well as exploring how AI and sustainability can come together to help shape the networks of the future.
Simon spent his early career at Analysys Mason creating reports and databases that charted the early stages of liberalisation of fixed networks. He has been helping to shape the development of the sector ever since. After leaving Analysys Mason he spent 17 years running his own business (Innovation Observatory), writing and advising on technology innovations in the telecoms, energy and clean tech sectors. He returned to Analysys Mason in 2022, attracted by the commitment and intellectual rigour we invest in our analysis.
Simon remains fascinated by how technology has changed the world, and enjoys trying to understand how things will evolve in future. Although a committed technophile, Simon is at his happiest when walking with his dog across the Fens of rural Cambridgeshire or the dramatic coastline of North Cornwall.
