Wi-Fi 7 helps telecoms operators to gain a competitive edge as demand for multi-gigabit connectivity grows
Wi-Fi 7, or IEEE 802.11be, was officially launched by the Wi-Fi Alliance at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2024. Compared to Wi-Fi 6/6E, Wi-Fi 7 delivers faster speeds, lower latency and less congestion, thanks to the introduction of several advanced features, including higher throughput, wider channel bandwidths, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and higher-order modulation. These features enable Wi-Fi 7 to effectively support multi-gigabit speeds and make it particularly suited for handling data-demanding and latency-sensitive activities. Consumers are increasingly interested in multi-gigabit speeds and Wi-Fi 7 will help operators to differentiate their fixed broadband services and unlock more opportunities for upsell.
