Abstract pink and yellow background

Deutsche Telekom's Horizontal TelCo Cloud (HTC) initiative, which involves migrating network functions to a cloud-native, horizontal cloud and automation platform, brought with it a fundamental automation and orchestration imperative. The operator developed an OCAS to address the cloud-native network functions (CNF) lifecycle management needs with principles that embed telecoms-specific requirements into cloud-native automation.

This case study provides:

  • an outline of the drivers behind, and challenges of, automating and orchestrating Deutsche Telekom's cloud-native, horizontal network platform
  • an overview of Deutsche Telekom’s OCAS architectural principles, key components and implementation details
  • an assessment of the benefits OCAS has delivered and is expected to deliver
  • an analysis of OCAS's significance for the wider industry, and the best practices it illustrates.
