The challenge
A global advanced industrials and infrastructure organisation was seeking to use advanced manufacturing to improve productivity, reduce delivery risk and strengthen programme performance
The client had identified advanced manufacturing as a key enabler of a nationally significant infrastructure programme and had set ambitious productivity, workforce and schedule targets. The challenge was not simply to prove that the manufacturing concept could work. It was to define and design the end-to-end processes needed to scale and integrate the capability into a complex delivery environment so that the expected benefits could be realised consistently.
Our approach
We helped the client define and test the process design required to scale manufacturing-led delivery
We worked with leaders and subject-matter experts across engineering, manufacturing and programme delivery to identify critical risks, performance constraints and interdependencies. We modelled and designed the end-to-end processes needed to connect requirements, product development, manufacturing and deployment. We also established the product development governance and systems engineering disciplines required to manage technical decisions, interfaces and change across the lifecycle. Through targeted workshops and structured analysis, we tested key assumptions underpinning the value case and translated them into a practical process framework for execution.

The client gained clearly defined and modelled processes, decision rights and interfaces across engineering and manufacturing. The work supported stronger alignment between teams, earlier identification of delivery risks and clearer accountability for the decisions required to achieve target productivity levels. By testing assumptions and addressing critical dependencies before significant investment decisions were made, the programme was better positioned to realise cost benefits, improve schedule certainty and scale the manufacturing capability successfully.
