Vodafone opened up about its network API strategy for the first time during a briefing with industry analysts on Thursday 21 November 2024. Indeed, Vodafone has been fairly quiet in this space until now, especially in comparison to its European peers of Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefónica, who have all been very vocal about their network API activities since the inception of Open Gateway. The reason for being so reserved is now evident: Vodafone has taken its time to restructure its organisation and put in the right commercial and technological foundations so as to accelerate its network API plans with confidence.
This article describes some of these organisational changes that Vodafone has made, as well as Vodafone’s activities on both the demand and supply side of the network API ecosystem.
