"AI smart glasses will not add connectivity revenue, but they appeal to exactly the customers that operators most want to attract."

Meta launched its latest range of AI smart glasses at Meta Connect in September 2026, including lower-priced frames and its first camera-free model. Our 2026 consumer survey shows that 11% of consumers plan to use AI smart glasses. These prospective customers spend 15% more than other customers on mobile services; they also visit operators’ stores more often. The glasses tether to handsets rather than use their own eSIM, so they will not generate new connectivity revenue. Instead, they offer operators two opportunities. In the short to medium term, selling them helps operators to attract and serve a niche group of high-spend customers. In the long term, it could help operators to become trusted advisers on new technologies, including AI.
