Nokia Telco Cloud Index: operator NFV/SDN maturity benchmark

This presentation offers a unique insight into operators' network function virtualisation (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) strategies based on data collected from 35 operators worldwide in three phases of the Nokia Telco Cloud index (TCi) study.

The TCi framework was jointly developed by Analysys Mason and Nokia in 2015. Analysys Mason collected the data from operators and analysed it in three stages in 2015, 2016 and 2017. We surveyed senior operator executives (70% of whom were C- and SVP-level executives) about their NFV/SDN strategy and the maturity of their related technology.

The presentation will provide an insight into operators' strategies for NFV/SDN and how they vary by region and operator size (See Figure 1). We will also discuss how and why some of the operators have changed their strategies since 2015. Finally, we will provide recommendations for operators regarding how to transform their networks, operations and organisations on their paths to becoming digital service providers (DSP).

Topics covered:

  • benchmark of operators' NFV/SDN technology and business maturity
  • NFV/SDN strategies and how they vary according to operator and region
  • next steps for operators as they become digital service providers
  • Nokia's approach to telco cloud transformation based on its TCi.
