The problem

The UK Space Agency, an agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in the UK, wanted to identify growth opportunities in the telecoms and navigation services sectors for UK-based companies. It wanted to identify service sectors that represent the most-promising revenue opportunities for expansion and, in particular, export opportunities.

The solution

Analysys Mason undertook primary and secondary research, broken down into the following main tasks.

  • Identifying UK companies that could potentially participate in the space industry.
  • Conducting interviews and an online survey with key stakeholders from the UK space industry to identify revenue growth opportunities, as well as challenges and barriers affecting growth.
  • Conducting desk-based research to identify the size of the global telecoms and navigation services markets.
  • Identifying sub-sectors in the telecoms and navigation services markets that are expected to deliver significant increases in growth for UK-based companies.

The result

The project resulted in a report that provided conclusions and recommendations, with the aim of increasing the UK’s share of the worldwide space market to 10% by 2030.

The team

The project was conducted by consultants from the Custom Research team.

The project included desk-based research, interviews and an online survey examining the potential size of the industry segment.
