The problem

A global mobile network operator (MNO) wanted to understand what potential partnership opportunities existed in the areas of mobile value-added services (VAS), mobile money and international IP bandwidth, and which of these were likely to generate the greatest returns. The client was also interested in profiling successful partnerships to gain examples of best practice.

The solution

Our approach used in-house expertise and knowledge, as well as external sources.

For each opportunity area, we provided an overview of key trends, growth drivers and a regional market sizing. We then identified partnerships that other operators were putting in place to exploit different types of opportunity and, in conjunction with the client, shortlisted successful examples that were of interest. We then prepared a series of detailed case studies, to understand the business challenge faced, the approach, results and benefits, success factors and key learnings.

Finally, we evaluated the client’s strengths, weaknesses and objectives to develop a set of criteria against which to benchmark possible alliance opportunities.

The result

The client gained a detailed understanding of what potential partnerships opportunities exist across its different markets and used this as a key input for its strategy.

The team

The project was conducted by consultants from the Custom Research team. As part of the project, we also sought views from across Analysys Mason’s global team.

For each opportunity area, we provided an overview of key trends, growth drivers and a regional market sizing.
