The client was a start-up company looking to secure funding for its plan to lay a dark fibre network using longhaul railroad rights of way in the East and Midwest portions of the USA.

Analysys Mason was called in to help with both a technical due diligence and a commercial review of their plans.

The technical analysis centered on two elements:

  • the client's plan to enter major cities, especially New York City, and reach carrier hotels in those cities
  • the overall completeness and thoroughness in their efforts to secure necessary rights of way beyond the ones granted to them by their partner railway.

On the commercial side, we analysed the advantages and disadvantages of major existing carriers buying from the client.

Thanks to our analysis and support, the startup successfully launched its services.
